As part of our Active Citizen objectives on raising awareness on citizenship and empowering vulnerable groups, the British Council aimed to alleviate social challenges faced by women and young girls through a storytelling workshop presented by two of Active Citizens Social Action Projects "Active Artists" and "El Ezba 2025."
Participants came from female headed households with severe economic and social conditions, like domestic violence and early marriage. Through art and other therapy activities, they learned how to reflect on these experiences positively, and voice their dreams, their struggles and the life lessons learned. They courageously shared their dreams, feelings and real-life struggles during a wonderful show in front of a public audience, with whom they were able to connect through their dreams and emotions that are understood by all girls, regardless of economic or social backgrounds.
