Learning English with the British Council helped Youssef Waël go from local robotics competitions in Egypt to the international stage.
Youssef is a young student from Egypt with a big talent for robotics programming. His success began with an unexpected win at a national robotics competition. That took him to South Korea, where he secured sixth place in the world robotics competition, proof of his growth from a newcomer to an international competitor.
Learning English with the British Council was central to Youssef’s journey. He built his English skills and his confidence with the support of expert teachers and high-quality resources. This boosted his performance at competitions, by helping him to understand contest rules, communicate with international teammates and talk to competition organisers. Youssef’s improved English was especially useful when competing as a solo entrant against teams from Japan, China, Singapore and South Korea, which tested his skills and resilience.
As well as supporting his recent achievements, Youssef’s experience with the British Council has shaped his future plans. He pans to continue refining his Englishand programming skills. He also hopes to explore voice acting.
‘Thanks to the British Council, my English improved significantly, which helped me achieve success in international competitions.’ Youssef Waël, student, Egypt
