Elan’s transformative journey with IELTS and the British Council highlights the power of education in shaping her future.

‘I was motivated to take the IELTS test because I wanted to skip the foundation year in university and save time and money. I envisioned it would open doors to better educational and career opportunities,’ Elan says.

Like many students, she had to stay disciplined in the lead up to her test. ‘One challenge was time management during preparation. I overcame it by creating a study schedule and sticking to it.’

This hard work paid off: Elan achieved a good score which meant she didn’t have to take an English course at university. She was also able to skip her foundation year, advancing directly into her chosen field of study.

For Elan, taking IELTS has not only validated her English skills but also connected her to bigger opportunities and a broader international community.

‘Achieving proficiency in English through IELTS opens doors by allowing access to universities and job opportunities worldwide. It’s a universal language for communication and collaboration.’

What advice would Elan give to future test takers? ‘Practise regularly, focus on weaknesses, and take practice tests to get comfortable with the format. Don’t underestimate the importance of time management during the exam.’

Elan’s story shows how dedication and strategic planning can turn challenges into opportunities. Her IELTS journey not only made her immediate academic goals possible, but also set the foundation for future professional success.
