Satya Priya Anand’s journey with the British Council has seen her go from a member of our library as a child to an academic manager as an adult.

Satya Priya Anand first connected with the British Council aged eight, when she joined one of our libraries. What began as a push from her mother to develop her reading became the foundation of a lifelong relationship with us and the beginning of her passion for education.

Keen to keep learning, Satya decided to pursue a qualification in teaching. In 2012, she completed the CELTA programme, a one-month intensive course that trains teachers to teach English to speakers of other languages.

The experience reignited her passion for teaching and  connected her with a network of educators and mentors, many of whom she remains in touch with to this day.

Soon after, Satya joined the British Council as a freelance teacher, and it wasn’t long before she became a full-time member of the teaching staff.

She made the most of our professional development opportunities, receiving sponsorship to complete a Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. She also received support to complete online teaching and teacher training certifications.

With these qualifications in hand, Satya quickly rose through the ranks and was eventually promoted to Academic Manager of one branch. Today, she manages three branches, overseeing a range of teaching programmes and supporting the development of other teachers.

Satya’s career has taken her beyond the United Arab Emirates, leading teacher development initiatives across the Middle East and Africa. Looking forward, she aims to take on broader regional leadership roles while continuing to nurture future generations of learners and educators, just as the British Council has supported her throughout her journey.

‘The British Council isn’t just about teaching English. It’s about nurturing growth, fostering leadership, and creating a global community of learners and educators. I am forever grateful for the opportunities that have shaped my journey, and I look forward to what the future holds.’ Satya Priya Anand, British Council, United Arab Emirates
