We are pleased to announce the results of the 2017 Al Azhar-UK Religious Studies Scholarship for postgraduate study in the UK.
3 candidates have been selected to begin study in the UK in September 20174. They are :
Mrs Doaa Baumi, Assistant Lecturer, Arabic and Islamic Studies, Faculty of Creed and Philosophy, to study for a PhD in Comparative Religions at the University of Edinburgh.
Mr Mohamed Marakeby,Preacher, to study for a PhD in Religious Studies at the University of Edinburgh.
Ms Rawdah Fawzy, Al Azhar Centre for Translation, Cairo, to study for an MA in Systematic Theology at Kings College, the University of London.
Doaa, Mohamed and Rawdah will join the 2016 scholarship recipients, Mahmoud Afifi (PhD, University of Lancaster), Mariam Shehata (PhD, SOAS) and Mohamed Gamal (PhD, SOAS).
Mahmoud, Mariam and Mohamed have successfully completed their first year of studies in the UK. Mohamed Gamal recently presented at a conference, Religious Imaginings and Global Transitions: How narratives of faith are shaping today’s world, organized by the London School of Economics Faith Centre and Gingko. The conference featured speakers from a range of religious backgrounds, as well as HM Ambassador to Egypt, John Casson.
As well as building academic links with scholars of Islam and other religions in the UK, Mohamed is an active member of the Muslim community in London and this Ramadan, has been invited to lead some of the Ramadan prayer sessions in London Central Mosque in Regents Park, thus sharing the vision of Al Azhar with British Muslims.
