Mohammad regularly enjoys taking part in professional development programmes with the British Council. But one in particular stands out: our Partnered Remote Language Improvement project.
PRELIM brings together UK language schools and university language centres with national English teaching associations around the world. Through it we’ve supported more than 5,000 teachers to build their confidence using English in the classroom.
Mohammad became involved with PRELIM through PATEFL, the Palestinian Teachers’ Association. The project was the first international partnership of its kind for PATEFL, making it all the more special for Mohammad.
In his role as co-ordinator and facilitator, he worked closely with UK partners to design and implement the project locally.
‘I had the opportunity to learn from their rich expertise and gain insights into different managerial, professional and organisational practices. These new skills were invaluable, allowing me to further strengthen my abilities as an educator.’
Mohammad particularly enjoyed connecting with other English teaching professionals and exploring new perspectives on global education.
‘The exchange of ideas and experiences was enriching and eye-opening. It reinforced my commitment to promoting inclusive and culturally responsive teaching approaches, ensuring that our
students receive a high-quality education that prepares them for an interconnected world.’
In 2023 we sponsored Mohammad to take part in the IATEFL conference alongside English teaching professionals from over 100 countries.
‘This international recognition was a testament to the impact of our work on the educational landscape in Palestine. It served as a catalyst for my personal and professional growth, inspiring me to continue pursuing international partnerships that will empower teachers and students in my country.’
Mohammad is now hard at work on phase three of PRELIM, which will support English teachers in 25 countries to create their own classroom resources.
