Amina Ghali, Head Designer at Azza Fahmy, recognizes the British Council as an important stepping stone in her career. The British Council opened doors for her mother, enabling her to study in the UK and become a successful jewellery designer.

Amina's connection with the British Council began through the Young Creative Entrepreneur Award in 2012. This prestigious recognition provided her with a unique opportunity to immerse herself in the vibrant design ecosystem of the UK. During her time there, she engaged with a diverse group of designers and industry professionals, gaining invaluable insights that would prove pivotal in her career.

Joining Azza Fahmy at a young age, Amina was still starting out and very eager. The exposure she received during the award programme was contributed to her development. Surrounded by like-minded peers and prominent figures such as Paul Smith, she absorbed knowledge about design, online marketing, and the challenges faced within the industry. “This experience was a turning point for Amina,” a colleague recalls. “It equipped her with the confidence and skills needed to excel in a competitive field.”

One of the most significant outcomes of Amina's experience was her collaboration with Lucy Norris, now the founder of SecondHand Styling. Their partnership flourished over the years, as Amina drew inspiration from Lucy's innovative approach to design and sustainability. This relationship not only added to Amina's creative process but also solidified her commitment to evolving the brand's offerings.

Amina's journey with the British Council has instilled in her a passion for continuous growth and innovation in design. As she looks to the future, she remains dedicated to exploring new ideas and continuously evolving, ensuring that Azza Fahmy continues to thrive in the ever-evolving jewellery landscape. The British Council's influence has been a catalyst for Amina's success, empowering her to craft a legacy of design that resonates with creativity and cultural heritage.
